Qualities (Guna) of the
food.
Food is divided into certain categories, ranging from foods which can
help to purify oneself to foods which cause disease and suffering. Here
s a brief analysis of the different types of foods that exist: There
are three types of food: Tamasic (in the mode of ignorance), Rajasic
(in the mode of passion) and Sattvic (in the mode of goodness).
Ayurveda uses spices, herbs, fruits and vegetable etc
as remedies for body imbalances.
For example if you have the cold you can boil 300ml of water with 40gm
dry ginger ,5gm pepper ,8 leaves of fresh basil, 1 teaspoon of coffee
and boil until the water reduces to 200 ml and drink it hot.
According to ayurveda, one has to eat what is in season and live a balanced
life in armony with the changing cycle of nature.One has to be relaxed
and aware of what is going into the body and when in a relaxed state
they digestive process is very effective and at its best.
